This hurts. A lot of country blogs, tweeters and fans in general are attacking Carrie Underwood for stepping out and showing the support of legalizing gay marriage. If you don't know, in comparison to the pop industry, the country industry is very conservative and unforgiving. Just ask LeAnn Rimes, who was basically blacklisted by a large part of the country industry after coming out and admitting that while her marriage was failing she had fallen in love with another man who was also going through a failing marriage.
The saddest part in all of this is that Carrie really only said it's not her right to judge. She never technically took sides, she just pointed out that she thinks everyone should be happy.
"As a married person myself, I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love, and want to marry," Underwood said. "I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."
"Our church is gay friendly," the "Jesus, Take the Wheel" singer said. "Above all, God wanted us to love others. It’s not about setting rules, or [saying] ’everyone has to be like me’. No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It’s not up to me to judge anybody."
...and some of the responses to Carrie's statement.
"Carrie Underwood Is a disgrace. Being vegan and supporting gay marriage doesn't seem very country at all."
"Another day, and a another "gospel" artist signed to "EMI" comes out supporting gay marriage.
"Not sure what God you pray to...but the Christian God could care less that Carrie Underwood is a multiplatinum singer...What He cares about is His word...if she is not following His word, which is very clear about homosexuality, then she is not a Christian. Same goes for you. And unlike the popular worldly belief, I can, as a Christian judge a tree by its fruit...and this is rotten."
"This is how Carrie Underwood kills her singing career."
Welp, Carrie, you're sexy. If you ever want to make pop music, we don't judge (as much) over here! I understand people have their own beliefs so I don't judge people for having their own opinions. I just think that you need to keep that shit at home and not worry about what other people do in theirs. Negativity just brings everyone down and Christians are often seen being negative in the social world as opposed to encouraging others to strengthen themselves, no matter what their beliefs are.
To put it simply, if you stop listening to one artist or another because they think differently than you, you're not a true music fan. You're ignorant. It kills me to hear people say they don't listen to Kanye because he's arrogant. His music is still amazing. People stopped listening to Britney because she doesn't perform like she used to. Her music is still amazing. People say that stopped listening to Rihanna becausethey're afraid that the Lamia will come through their speakers and eat all of their children of whatever situation with Chris Brown and vice versa, but their music is still amazing!
Just listen to music, people. Listen.

I AM SO DONE WITH YOU AT THAT RIHANNA/DRAG ME TO HELL SHADE. I DIED.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Christian myself and my opinion is pretty much the same as hers. God wanted us all to love each other. His word is very clear regarding homosexuality, yes, but it's not our job to judge anyone. The only one who has the rights to judge is the Lord.
ReplyDelete"Give honour to your father and your mother: and, Have love for your neighbour as for yourself." - Matthew 19:19
Lovely ^^^^
ReplyDeletecompletely agree; the bible explicitly states that judgment is reserved for god, but that never stops bible thumping "christians" with a hardon for homophobia from keeping their thinly veiled insults masquerading as opinions to themselves.
ReplyDelete"...It kills me to hear people say they don't listen to Kanye because he's arrogant. His music is still amazing...."
seriously.
aside from being a revolutionary artist that's helped changed the sound and look of hip-hop and pop culture he's also a rapper and rap by it's nature is competitive and ego driven so of course he's going to be arrogant.
i bet these same people listen to usher (no shots fired) but he has more of an ego than kanye does.
