Oops, she did it again y'all (such a cliché and outplayed Britney Spears reference, but oh, so fitting)!
According to Hits Daily Double, Taylor Swift's latest album "Red" will open with 1.2 million albums sold its first week, a mere hundred thousand less than Britney's record setting debut with sophomore album "Oops, I Did It Again."
12 years ago "Oops, I Did It Again" opened with, a record setting, 1.3 million sales in its first week of release. The record still remains as the highest first week sales figure for ANY female artist.
Taylor, who opened with 1.1 million for her last album "Speak Now" was expected to contest Britney's record with her new album "Red."
Now, Taylor may not have beaten Britney's record, but damn does this girl have some massive selling power! Pushing 1.2 million records with NO shady promotional deals or 99 cent discounts and amidst an album selling rut in the music industry - WERK! Taylor worked her ass off promoting the album, and all of her success is rightfully deserved.
There are no 'losers' today in my book.
It's proof that record executives crying about lack of sales is part bullshit. Make a quality album, and people will still buy it.
ReplyDeleteTrue tea. Quality album and quality promotion.
DeleteAwkward moment when you say that Taylor's last album was called "Fearless" ........ CORRECTION: Her last album was called "Speak Now" ....... I am not even a Swift Stan and I know this lol.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, oops. Good catch!
DeleteThat awkward moment where you shade Gaga's 99cent deal that wasn't even done because of her but through Amazon, but fail to mention the deal Taylor did etch out with Papa John's ...you stay failing.
ReplyDeletePeople are still paying full price for the Taylor album.. Papa John's just delivers it to your door.
DeleteSo quick to throw shade & you don't even know what you're talking about
Pretty much. And Billboard and HDD have dragged GaGa's 99 cent deal in articles about "Red's" sales more than I have.
DeleteThank god someone else said it before I had to. To add to that comment though Gaga may not have given the order for the album to be sold for 99 cents but the fact remains the album was still sold for fucking 99 cents. No shade at gaga but its fact
DeleteThe fact is that Little Monsters are a popculture minority. The 99 cent deal was an attempt to invite more fans into the Monster Pit. That backfired; it made Us look cheap and desperate. Second fact, we were. Post-Monster era there was a lot of mess at our party; many ppl had jumped off the bandwagon when they realized Gaga was a serious toned EDM artpopist. BORN THIS WAY was our war cry against detractors (ppl that partyhardied during the Monster project). As you can see, our tone towards "haters" is less meek, and more outspoken. What does this mean for ARTPOP? The invitations are suspended, come if you want, but this time we are going to actually enjoy our own party; instead of hosting it. ARTPOP is our woodstock. Do u wanna be apart of popculture history, your choice - we'll be there either way.

I made a point out of inspiration and not of insult.
DeleteFirst of all, stop making excuse about the 99 cent deal, nobody's asking what was it attempted for. Your second 'fact' is just another opinion, not a fact. And the rest of your post is irrelevant to the actual discussion.
DeleteI not once insulted you. I swore but never once blurted an insult please don't play the victim card booboo
DeleteHi Aaron. I didnt say u insulted me. My point was that i wasnt insulted. Hope i didnt insult u. #poker
DeleteTaylor has more fans than most pop singers, in terms of country folk to city folk. Ppl are less inclined to like EDM. Instead they have historically opted for acoustic ("country") oriented artists. RED is a pivotal album for her. Good for her.
ReplyDeleteMonster claws up!
Just face the fact that Taylor was able to sell 1.2 million with "NO shady promotional deals or 99 cent discounts". Why is it so hard for Gaga's fans to accept it but instead making excuses on how Taylor has more fans, and how the "99 cent deal was an attempt to invite more fans".
ReplyDeleteThe politically timing of RED is also curious; it's sales results no less. There are truly more RED states than blue states this time...
DeleteIm old enough to vote, i have, i know. Care to use ure first name?
DeleteExactly, even Xen has personally explained more shits than Gaga herself.
ReplyDeleteI've been coming to this site ever since it leaked BTW. Just a fan.. and thanks.
ReplyDeleteBorn This Way is clearly BETTER than this successful album that sold 1.2 mil, i mean its not fair comparing such a 99cent album to this. I would defend my mother monster no matter how irrelevant and delusional and out of sense i am. And RED is not that great, not as great as BTW, i mean Taylor has more fans than Lady GaGa, in terms of country folk to city folk. Ppl are less inclined to like EDM *i started to use the word EDM since Gaga said it*. and blah blah blah.. SO in conclusion RED is meh, BTW is better in every aspects. I cannot accept the fact that it sold 1.2 mil copies without 99 cents deal and it sold more than BTW in its first week, although we monsters preach acceptance and love.
ReplyDeleteand btw ARTPOP! even if it doesn't related to the actual discussion!
#PAWSUP #SIP
Applause, pour vous.
DeleteGrazie! ;)
DeleteOf course. ;p
DeleteOh LEM put this as ur first post 'cause im loving what XEN & (curious) NEX are saying!
ReplyDeleteThe politically timing of RED is also curious; its price results no less than 99cent and it is clearly has something to do with it SERIOUSLY, i mean Mitt Romney is totally giving out RED for free on his campaign. There are truly more RED states than blue states this time I THINK, and you guys NEED to know that I AM old enough to vote, i have, i know and i am a bigot. Care to use YOUR first name? because I DONT LIKE IT WHEN YOU DONT USE YOUR FIRST NAME!
