I've never seen it for Bieber. He's always seemed like a here-today-gone-tomorrow Disney star that was a fad amongst tykes and teens. I felt the same way about Taylor Swift. I still can't believe that bitch stuck around. Then, when I thought about it, my parents said they same thing about Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson. At least my parents were half right. I think as people grow their tastes change and sometimes it's a different change then what the music industry is experience. So for me, music that still sounds to be geared towards younger teens doesn't really rock my world, but I have learned to respect Bieber for maintaining that and still evolving here and there. I mean, he's raking in dough so he's doing something right.
He's actually doing a lot right on this album. The hooks are all well written and catchy, perfect for radio. I wouldn't say his lyrics are amazing, or even close, but when it comes to pop radio, keeping it simple is the way to go. Vocally, his growth isn't much to clammer over, but I like that he explores new styles of singing, like the spoken parts of "Boyfriend" or finally bringing it down a few octaves in the title track. Production wise, this album is surprisingly on top of things. Much like his sugar daddy mentor Usher, he's successfully found a way to please his wide range of fans, offering plenty of pop and other genre fusions without losing his personality. Every track is uniquely Bieber.
The album's biggest deficit is his vocals often sounding campy or lacking the range needed to satisfy certain R&B undertones like in "Catching Feelings." I'd hope'd puberty would have been a cure, but he could still stand a few vocal lessons. Just enough to polish his sound. If he expects to stick around as long as Usher, or Justin Timberlake for that matter, he's going to have to learn how to sound sexier more mature.
The bottom line is, "Believe" is actually a solid pop album and much better than I expected from him. I'd give this album a 6.5 out of 10, easy, but I do expect much more growth on his future releases. I recommend downloading or checking out on Spotify if you have it. If you love it, buy it. I love like 7 of the tracks....which is pretty astonishing for me to admit. haha....the cut with Nicki is fire and NEEDS to be a single......and I'm really feeling out of town girl :D
ReplyDeleteI do love All Around The World but it's what I think would happen if Till the World Ends had a baby with Glad You Came......lol
ReplyDeleteBeauty and the beast is FIRE i lov the beat it's really catchy , to be honest i always thought the bieber fever was crazy and i've never download any song from this teen but beauty and the best convince me so i did download Believe and at the end it is a good surprise for once lol but it's not a smash either.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA I like more songs from this album then gaga's BTW
ReplyDeleteI have been jammin out to this on my Ipod all damn DAY!! "Take You" is by far my favorite song so far..almost completely RnB, but all the sudden, he takes you to the club.."As Long as you Love Me" is pretty good too.
ReplyDeletethe mid tempos are atrocious and his voice sounds really whiny sometimes! In fact,he sounds identical to Chris Brown at some points..
ReplyDeleteHowever,I do like the Uptempos because the productions are great.Honestly I think A Million Lights is better but everyone has their own opinion....
This album sucks, he's trying to come as Justin Timberlake but failed miserably. Even Gaga's Born This Way is better than this. And not here for that Britney-copy "All Around the World".
