Billboard's chart director, Silvio Pietroluongo, has confirmed to MartianTV via Twitter that the charting system has deciding against combining the "Scream & Shout" remix with the original version of the song. Not really a big surprise. The songs are way different.
Billboard's charting teams takes several variables into considering when determining whether or not a remix will chart along with an original song or seperately. Pietroluongo stated, "Not merging RMX with original. Just too different. They are featured players for most part on new one. And no verses on both"
Unfortunately will.i.am and co. this could cause the song to peak at #2 or #3 on the Hot 100 depending on when Macklemore & Ryan Lewis song "Thrift Shop" peaks and falls on radio and iTunes.
The chart director went on to inform Britney fans that he is not the one who decided on the rule that prevented Britney's 5th album, Blackout, from debuting at #1. He was, however, behind Britney's remix of "S&M" charting with Rihanna's original version, earning Britney her 5th #1 single.
I am cackling at the editor's statement to Britney fans. He is afraid of our anger and back lash.
ReplyDeleteBut in the grand scheme of things, as a fan it doesn't matter to me because the song is already a huge smash and I don't need a #1 (although it's nice) to state the same thing.
Is it me or do the rules seem way too vague? Shouldn't they have a clear writing of what would qualify a song? It seems like they're changing the rules with every major single.
ReplyDeleteBillboard has always been secretive about their formulas in the rules simply because they don't want people to be able to dispute their charts. They have some set rules, but they have experts that go in and weigh different variables to determine these things.
DeleteThey are always been "special" when it comes to Britney!
ReplyDeleteyou guys are so late. this rule has been in place for nearly a year. all remixes will chart separately and won't be added to sales of the original song.
ReplyDeleteThat's not true. Quite the opposite in fact. All of Katy Perry's remixes from Teenage Dream would still count. They just changed the rules a bit, but they didn't say all remixes would chart seperately.
DeleteThey changed the rules after the Teenage Dream era (before Part Of Me/Wide Awake).
