The 10 Worst Songs Of 2012

Saturday, December 29, 2012

Can we stop praising the best songs of 2012 and drag the filth that 2012 tortured us with? Below are the 10 songs that had yours truly gagging harder than Kim Kardashian was going down on Ray J.

10. "Live While We're Young" - One Direction
"It's now or never, don't over think just let it go. / And if we get together, yeah 'get together,' don't let the pictures leave your phone."
Breeding a new generation of sluts. Catchy song, but justifying and romanticizing one-night stands to your, predominately, 12-16 female fanbase leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

9. "Automatic" - Nicki Minaj
Gut-wrenchingly basic and cliché lyrics ("Nicki's so bad tonight!" / "I'm a monster on the floor!") coupled with the laziest excuse for a hook, "It's automatic-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-ic" makes me sob blood. Oh, let's not forget the un-inspired dubstep wobbles slapped together in the bridge - so edgy.

8. "Fuck U Betta" - Neon Hitch
"She can fuck you good, but I can fuck you better."
Mmkay, well, there's that. As a verse, maybe - JUST maybe that could pass...but when that's the chorus of your track, honey, you can take that ignorant nonsense elsewhere. The only reason why this track isn't lower is because 2012 was sorely lacking some shamelessly slutly pop songs for me to dance to in my bedroom.

7. "Don't Fail Me Now" - Melanie Amaro (X-Factor winner)
It's like Darkchild produced this song in...well, the dark. It's a clusterfuck of sounds, genres and harmonies that sound, literally, cut and pasted together in an attempt to throw the song at various radio markets and see where it sticks.

6. "Triumphant" (f/ Rick Ross & Meek Mill) - Mariah Carey
MiMi scraps the bottom of the barrel for arguably her worst inspirational track in recent memory. Being demoted to hook singer on your own damn song, mixed with whistle notes recycled from old tracks, makes "Triumphant" anything but what its title suggests.

5. "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)" - Nelly Furtado
Nelly's vocals on this track are ear-grating. The wannabe Rihanna-swag with whiny imitation accent to boot makes "Big Hoops" one of the most annoying songs of 2012. There aren't any verses on this track because the entire song sounds like one big word: "TONIGHTISTHEJAMI'LLBETHERETILLDAWNI'MGOINDOWNIGOTMYBIGHOOPSON." Nelly could have taken this song elsewhere. Not even the hot beat could redeem this disaster.

4. "Hail Mary" (f/ Lil Wayne & Young Jeezy) - Trey Songz
Trey Songz said his album "Chapter V" would be more mature; well, with captivating lyrics such as:
"You say you like it deep, hail mary...tonight, we're going long," that's definitely for MATURE AUDIENCES. Hypersexual songs laced with blatant innuendo is one thing, but there is absolutely NOTHING redeeming about this track. The analogies aren't cute and are so played out, the instrumental is stale tea and the featuring artists contribute zilch. The entire song is just a nuisance.

3. "Boyfriend" - Justin Bieber
Nothing says "swag" more than "chllin' by the fire, eatin' fondue" behind Justin Timberlake's decade old beat. Instead of trying to craft his own sound, Bieber and his team had to dig through the Library of Congress for the blueprints on Justin Timberlake's early career. The chorus and bridge aren't bad, sadly the verses cause paralysis of the ear: "Imma make you shine bring like ya layin' in the snow." Bieber's talk-rap during the verses wouldn't be bad if the lyrics weren't so fuxxing dumb.

2. "Give Me All Your Luvin'" (f/ Nicki Minaj & M.I.A) - Madonna
Just how bad was this song? Well, the track had a Super Bowl performance, the music video premiered on American Idol and the song was greeted to radio with a big fat Interscope/Clear Channel radio deal....and yet you never heard it outside its official release week. Some call the track immature for a 51-year-old woman, and they're right - but I'm sure there have been worse displays of immaturity. The root of the problem regarding this song is that it flat out sucks ass and the fact that the QUEEN OF POP released such yawn-inducing filler as a lead single is baffling. The track is just too passive and stagnant for modern radio. Not to mention, Madonna sounds completely un-enthused and un-involved throughout the entire song, in fact, she pretty much remains in the same key the entire time. Madonna just sounds so nonchalant, if you want someone's love, that should reflect in the vocals. Madonna sounds like she should be singing: "Give me all your love and gimme your love...but if you don't want to, that's alright too."

How in the hell can you made a cheerleading-themed song boring? To make matters worse, not even the two loud-mouthed featuring artists, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., could salvage how dry this track is in the 15 seconds of airtime they were given.

1. "Whistle" - Flo Rida
Well, honestly, this song blows. See what I did there? First off, tell Flo Rida to catch the hell up because the year of whistling in Top-40 songs was LAST YEAR. Next, who the fuck bought this song? How in the hell did this even chart on the Hot 100, let alone hit the top spot? This is easily the worst song of 2012 and I absolutely cringe every time I hear it.

What do you think of the list? What were some songs you hated this year?

  6. I love Live While We're Young. The only reason it's on this list is because it was performed by 1D, let's be real. lol
