Beyoncé Suing Man That Leaked Album "4"

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

The buzz on King B is that she's still not happy about her fourth studio album "4" leaking nearly three weeks earlier than its release date back in June 2011 - so her and her label are taking action.

According to Torrent Freak, Beyoncé, through her label Sony Music and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, are SUING the man that (allegedly) leaked the standard edition of "4"!
On Monday a man was sued for copyright infringement. He is suspected of illegally file-sharing music albums, which in itself is not exactly out of the ordinary.

However, this prosecution has a number of interesting elements which together make for a unique case.

Firstly, it concerns the leak of unreleased music. According to authorities, on June 8, 2011 a 47-year-old man from western Sweden shared Beyonce’s album ’4′ on The Pirate Bay in advance of its commercial release on June 24.

According to DN.se, during interrogations the man admitted having an interest in music and also working in the music industry.

Music sharing cases have been prosecuted in Sweden before, but authorities see this as an opportunity to test how far punishments can be pushed in a pre-release case.

“Scope, intent and other factors play a role in the penalty assessment.
In this case it is in my opinion an important factor that pre-release music has been made available. I can imagine this causing greater harm,” says Henrik Rasmusson.

As reported on several occasions here on TorrentFreak, previously there have been unusual factors leading to BitTorrent users being prosecuted for file-sharing. According to prosecutor Henrik Rasmusson, this is the first time that monitoring and electronic evidence has led to the prosecution of a BitTorrent user.
Now, I don't know much about algebra...but the leak definitely hurt the sales of "4," the heavy promotion she put into the album should have resulted in more than a 310K debut in the United States, especially since "4" had huge debuts in Brazil and the UK.

Good for Beyoncé and her team taking action! Though this should come as no surprise, we all know how defensive Beyoncé gets when her children (Grammy's, albums, singles) are tampered with...

I'm not a lawyer, but this fool is screwed!

    1. They're just reporting on an event happening in the music industry, chill. Besides, they have never leaked anything very important or big enough to hurt the actual sales of the single/album so there's no "pot calling" going on here.

    2. If Beyonce's album was actually good, the leak wouldn't have hurt sales.
