Suxx: Ke$ha's 'Warrior' Sales In 'Lotus' Range

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Arguably the last pop album worth giving a damn for this year was released yesterday, and today Hits Daily Double has released its ever-accurate sales projection for Ke$ha's sophomore album "Warrior."

"Warrior" is slated to open with somewhere between 80K - 85K. To contrast, her debut album "Animal," which released AFTER the holiday season in January, opened at No. 1 with 152K copies.

To make things worse, Ke$ha's sales are even more disappointing across the pond. Ke$ha's album will debut OUTSIDE of the UK's TOP 40 albums chart.

Between Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and now Ke$ha - can we officially agree that RCA is terrible at marketing their artists?

However, the blame isn't entirely on RCA and I'm so tired of these excuses about the "climate" of the music industry affecting sales. Yes, while the sales climate has a lot to do with things, the fact is, Ke$ha's album wasn't very good.

The general public has shown that they will buy the music if the music is good and promoted well. What Ke$ha was serving on "Warrior" was a watered down version of the same ol', same ol'. Nearly every track is skippable aside from "Fergalicious" ripoff, "Crazy Kids," and the once hyped, turned anti-climatic "Supernatural." I'm still searching for the "cockpop."

Nothing on "Warrior" stands out as an immediate second single and nothing on the album is as foot-tappingly infectious as the entire "Animal/Cannibal" album was.

Sad, because typically the sophomore album should be your big album with the general public and critics looking forward to your music. Not to mention the fact that she's pulling those disappointing numbers with a hit single under her belt.

I'm assuming when she sang about "Die Young," she didn't mean her career. No doubt RCA will have Ke$ha's ass right back in the studio for album three - seems months of traveling and ghost fucking doesn't pay.

  2. This is so devastating, you'd think that it was a given that her music would sell really well but it's such a shame.
I completely agree though, 'Supernatural' was definitely anti-climactic.

My favourite songs from the album are Warrior, Crazy Kids, Last Goodbye & Love Into The Light, the rest I skip to be honest :\

  4. Not a surprise she's a one trick pony and her music is awful.

    1. Her music isn't awful at all. She wrote songs for other artists including Britney Spears, her live performances are good, a lot of her songs went platinum, her voice is pretty amazing and Die Young peaked at number 2.

  5. Seriously, I love ke$ha and had such high hopes for this album cause Cannibal was the best, but no. This album sounds bland. There's only like 3 or 4 songs i really like and the rest remind me of her "unreleased" demos on youtube :(

isn't a popular artists second album typically disappointing compared to their first; hence the term "sophomore jinx" or "sophomore slump"?

    1. I clarified, it was an attempt at a reference. "Crazy Kids" is very similar to "Fergalicious" by Fergie.

  9. Give her time it was released just yesterday. And let me say, it is really good. This is coming from a die hard Britney fan.

    1. I hope that she will sell the album in the long run! But this is not good... at all...

I thought she would do almost Rihanna numbers... At least better than Alicia Keys, but she didnt :S

  10. I thought Ke$ha's album was great. I don't get how you can judge something when it only came out yesterday. Shes been on a long break and people forget to check. I know a lot of people who would buy the album if they new about it. Wait till people start spreading the word.

Unlike xtina where people stayed away from even downloading it illegally.

  13. Alicia may have not opened with a #1 but look what happened today. #yourwelcome don't be so quick to assume the opening weeks numbers will predict the fate of the album. Good promotion, is still good promotion.

  14. I dont agree with this at all. And thank god Martian doesn't either. I think the album is great. I love listening to it. Every song i can listen to and I dont have to skip it like Rihanna's album. Blackout didnt sell a lot either...... doesnt mean it's not an amazing album. Now I'm not saying its at blackout level, but I would say that it is pretty good and I'm happy with it. C'mon, Warrior, Think of You, Supernatural, Cool Kids,Out Alive, All that Matters are amazing songs. And the rest are good too. She may not have the success that unapologetic has, but that is rihanna's 7th album and this is Ke$ha's second. Also Unapologetic sucks but it did great in sales. The beginning album sales have nothing to do with the quality of the album. It has to do with the artists history. Its been awhile since Ke$ha came out with something..... She will get back on top.

    1. 100% agree with ALL of this!

    2. TOTALLY agree with this. Ke$ha is definitely my favorite artist and I absolutely LOVE this album completely. It shows her growth over the past 2 years as an artist. Of course there are some typical Ke$ha moments in the album, but that's what makes her her! I don't skip any track on this album. It may not debut on top, but I know it'll get great reviews.

  15. I can't believe that Warrior will just sell 85.000 in its first week because it's amazing. I bought the physical copy, I bought Die Young in September on iTunes.
Talking about RCA Records is stupid because Kesha is performing everywhere: Xfactor US, Xfactor Australia, Conan O'Brien Show etc... & Madonna (I love her and I bought MDNA)opened her first week with 359k sales and then hel album fell down on the charts selling "just" 48k copies and her label is INTERSCOPE. Alicia Keys went number 1 so where's the flop? And please don't tell me that Girl On Fire is a smash hit. That's the problem of Alicia Keys. Christina Aguilera is not selling because of other reasons: she's got the voice but she lost her popularity.

  16. Be quiet. Ke$ha is fine and she is not going anywhere. Warrior is a great album and even some of the greatest albums don't reach number one; Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion. Ke$ha is a relevant pop star and no one can deny it. No matter how much you say you hate Ke$ha you know you've caught yourself mouthing the words to her songs because they're too damn catchy. Quit comparing artists to eachother and let them be who they are. Ke$ha didn't make this album for critics; She made it for her animals to let them know to stay strong, love your inner-self, stop the hate, and embrace your inner WARRIOR. She's still on top no matter how many albums she's sold in a debut week. What would you say if next week she sold 350,000? Then what?
