Nicki Minaj EP Recalled in UK + I Rant A Bit

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Ouch! Nicki Minaj's label is pulling The Re-Up EP from select retailers in the UK and replacing them with her second album, ...Roman Reloaded. Some sources are citing poor sales as the reason, and that's not hard to believe. The UK had turned into a massively supportive machine for Minaj, but this new era has been mishandled more than Rita Ora's pussy.

If you check out ordering sites like HMV you'll notice that you can't add it to your shopping cart. Oh, and good luck trying to pick up a copy at Tesco

Normally, I'm an avid supporter of Minaj myself, but I think at this point she's in over her head. The fact that she hasn't managed a #1 single on the Hot 100 yet, even with extremely strong radio material like "Va Va Voom" and "Whip It," just shows that she's not really listening to the public. This new EP came about 3 months too early. She seems to be giving "Va Va Voom" the cold shoulder in order to appease the hip-hop fans who've been begging for Nicki to drop the pop and release harder music. The only problem is that even though these people are praising the new EP, they aren't buying it. Even with the neglect, the latest pop single has been holding strong on it's own. It's obvious that with even the tiniest push this song would fly to the better looking part of the charts.

Now I'm not sure if Minaj has dropped promotion for the second album's pop side overall, but if she has, she might as well hang it up and try again in a year. She completely ignored one of these polls, but wonders why she's not seeing the success she could. We all know Nicki could earn herself a pop princess crown if she played her cards right. I'm hoping for the best in the future, but right now she's confusing the shit out of me... and I think everyone else.

What do you think Minaj should do?

  1. Completely agree with you. She was trying to do too much at once to appease both sides and in reality she should have at least saw through some major promo for Va Va Voom and waited to try and appease the urban crowd. This is the problem with the musical ADD of the current generation and many artists it produces -- they read enough complaints on Twitter and abandon ship with current ideas and campaigns in an effort to appease these people, without really realizing that the online crowd who makes these complains are just a fraction of the pop music audience. Hopefully she'll learn after this.

  3. Disagree - when her album was more urban, her first week sales were out of this world! Pink Friday sold much more than Roman Reloaded.

Her pop tracks are good - don't get me wrong, but she shouldn't have made the album as pop.

  4. I think if she goes back to her Pink Friday sound she'll be good. I don't want her to be a pop star. She needs to finish as she started. A female RAPPER. Urban fans buy albums Pop fans buy singles. So moving to her urban fans is what she NEEDS to do and what she is currently doing. The Re Up isn't pushing as much because its a re release. But come on now. 37K WITHOUT Target & Walmart? Thats good. When Katy ( POP ARTIST ) did 33K WITH Target & Walmart.

    1. Don't even try to put Katy down. She is the only artist other than Michael Jackson to have 5 #1 singles off one album.

    2. who put Katy down? I'm simply saying Nicki dod better than a pop artist.
