Xtina's Second 'Lotus' Single Is 'Just A Fool'

Saturday, November 17, 2012

Yesterday, RCA confirmed that the second single from Christina Aguilera's album "Lotus" will be the country mid-tempo "Just A Fool" featuring her "The Voice" co-star Blake Shelton.

"Just A Fool" is one of the standouts from "Lotus" but I'm not buying it as second single worthy. In my opinion, "Red Hot Kinda Love" is THE best song on the album, and fits right in with radio today while still staying true to Christina's artistry and identity. It's sexual, it's fun, it's breezy and cheeky in the best ways possible; the hook is pop perfection. It's a shame that her fans consistently overlook the track despite it being one of the, if not the, most critically well-received track on the album. Another wasted opportunity.

Country may be huge in the United States and yes, "Just A Fool" currently sits in the iTunes Top 30 but I just don't see it working out in the long run. Not only that, but "Just A Fool" isn't going to sell the album. "Just A Fool" is a country music outlier on a pop album. Country music enthusiasts and fans of 'Fool' aren't going to buy the album for pop tracks when they're feeling the country/soul, and at this point, Xtina needs album sales for that tour, not more digital copy sales on a single. "Red Hot Kinda Love" is much more representative of the album.

My final concern - will "Just A Fool" have proper promotion? What a shame it would be if she wasted her American Music Awards performance on "Dead Your Body."

  1. Shes performing medley at AMAs including Army Of Me & Let There Be Love - will be other songs and all songs will be uptempo

  3. While I love Red Hot Kinda Love, I think Just a Fool is one of the strongest single options right now. It climbed up iTunes quickly, it falls into the ballad territory that Christina does so well, and NOT straight up radio pop. (Your Body didn't do well, might as well try something a little different.) It's also just a damn good song.

  8. I think Let There Be Love is the most single worthy song on the album TBH. She's performing it at the AMA's. It just seems to be the right choice that is not being made.
