Is Minaj's 'Roman Reloaded' Rerelease A Tad Too Early?

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

If you haven't heard, Nicki Minaj is planning on re-releasing her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album, which includes a new single drop this week. The new two-disc set will see shelves in November, but promo for the album starts tomorrow with the release of "The Boys" which is rumored to feature Rita Ora, though MediaBase reports that the feature will be Brianna Perry. (...and we've seen MediaBase make mistakes before).

It hasn't even been a year since the release of the album, but there has been a handful of singles. I just wonder if Nicki is selling the original print of the album short by potentially not releasing "Va Va Voom" and "Whip It," which fans have been very vocal about supporting. Honestly, "Va Va Voom" was a stand out track on the album the same way that "Superbass" was on "Pink Friday."

I think Nicki could have pushed out two more singles before jumping the gun on a rerelease. Again, she's just selling herself short and not taking the proper steps in choosing a single. Even though it's doing well on the charts, "Pound the Alarm" should have never been a single. It sounds too similar to "Starships." "Va Va Voom" would have been a refreshing change from all of the Roman Reloaded. It's the only song that has potential to cross over multiple platforms and become a huge smash hit, even potentially the #1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100.

Update: The Rerelease will be all urban, which I understand. "Beez" is the highlight of that.

What are your thoughts on this rerelease? Too early. Just in time. Late. Let me know in the comments...

  3. If I'm not mistaken, it was published that the re-released would be more focused on new urban tracks AND still try to push out Va Va Voom and Whip It as singles. By no means was this re-release a way to short her original.

  4. The songs on the 2nd disc will be all urban songs...Nicki said she will still release pop singles off of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and the urban singles be from the Re-Up disc

  5. There was way too little urban on the original one so this is good.

  6. punch for brianna and this was kinda expected; it was released in february and it is the biggest hip-pop album of the year and her label's re-releasing it for the holidays to maximize sales.

i think it's smart that her label stuck with a strategy of urban and pop releases; until nicki manages to combine her styles her audience will be pretty segmented and this serves them both.
