It's the Battle of the Scream Queens for this installment of Rivals, featuring two of the loudest strongest vocalist in the music industry!
First up there's Carrie Underwood, the most successful American Idol contestant!
Then, there's Christina Aguilera, a true pop princess who will go down in history as one of the best selling female artist.
Aside from tons of hit singles, millions of sold records and the vocal chords of an angry Tyrannosaurus Rex, what else do these blond beauties have in common? A rep for having a nasty diva attitude! That's why they're the perfect match for the second match-up in Rivals!
Let's get right down to it, shall we?
*Remember guys, this is all in fun. I love each of these artist a lot and the shade is just for laughs. Everyone knows I'll never be as rich, famous or beautiful as any of these ladies, so just have fun with this!*
Round 1: Sales and Accolades
It's going to be hard for Carrie to compete with Christina's monster album sales, considering Christina has sold more albums worldwide than Carrie has sold records. However, Christina does have a major advantage over Carrie, seeing that she's been around for twice as long and has (until now) held a more international appeal.
Still, Carrie has managed to take home more Grammy Awards than Christina and is noted as one of the most award female artists by CMT and the CMA. Underwood also has too many #1 country hits to count, whereas Aguilera trails in #1 pop singles. Also, when comparing career award wins, Underwood only trails by a handful.
This category is all going to depend on what you think is more important. In my personal opinion, it's quite impressive that Underwood has become such an unstoppable force in the industry with just four albums. She literally doesn't chart lower than #2. You also have to take into consideration that country music doesn't have as much appeal outside of the US. For the most part, her focus has been a very specific group of people for the past 7 or 8 years. Christina has albums and singles the have struggled to live up to her high profile status.
Carrie Underwood takes an early lead!
Round 2: Talent
This round was the hardest to determine because both of these ladies became famous forhaving some of the strongest and most beautiful vocal abilities around.
Seriously, if you think for one second that you're going to perform with one of these chicks and they'll let you get a note in, you've got another thing coming. I named this round Battle of the Scream Queens for a reason! Check out this video.
They are obviously pretty well matched with each other. They both have extremely flexible chords and use vocal acrobatics at every chance.
That said, let's look at their performances.
Christina Aguilera is actually a really great performer. Even when she was a little heavier she wasn't afraid to give a fierce chair dance (as the chair wobbled for dear life) or bust out full choreography during her performances. I love that about Christina. She'll never be as known for her performances as one of her seemingly zombiefied peers (side-eye to Britney Spears), but she still gives the same energy as she did over a decade ago.
Carrie is cute during her performances, but he walking down a runway just does not compare (another side-eye to Britney). I've seen Carrie do choreography once or twice, which was great, but great in the way a 4-year-olds drawings are great. You hang it on the fridge in hopes they'll keep doing it and get better.
Plus, Christina sings in Spanish!
Round 2 belongs to Christina.
Round 3: Beauty & Sex Appeal
Don't get me wrong, Christina is a very beauty woman, but she has too many mishaps. Her weight fluctuates, hitting as big as a whale to as thing as a rail and catastrophically horrid John Wayne Gacy makeup choices... don't get me started. She can't even step in the ring with Carrie, who always looks like she just stepped out of a beauty pageant.
However, Carrie has never really served "sexy." She is pretty conservative, and no amount of wind machines will ever help her compete with Christina's legendary Dirrty era, where she was pretty much the biggestslut sex symbol in the industry.
It's pretty much the same instance as Rihanna's sex appeal against Beyonce's natural beauty, but I think this time we're going to go with beauty over sex appeal. Carrie looks like she gets photoshopped in the shower every morning. She normally dresses really well and there is never a single hair out of place on her unflawed mane. Even when Christina was at her sexiest, she still looked like she was getting ready to head to a bukkake fest. Like the hot chick at the club you knew everyone had slept with, but wanted to sleep with her anyways because she was so sexy... but still gross.
Point, Carrie Underwood
Round 4: Star Power
Christina takes this one. Even at her lowest, she's still maintained a fanbase that sticks by her. I can't even think of a Carrie Underwood stan outside of myself. Christina is more likely to be called on to tribute someone. Christina is more likely to sell out a stadium in any country. Carrie wouldn't have brought the same amount of viewers to The Voice as Christina. Christina is still one of the most well known female pop stars of all time.
Short answer and simple.
Another win for Aguilera!
Round 5: The Best Hits
So it's all tied up, again... so this round will determine who wins.
The question at hand; Who has better hits?
Christina's is known for songs like "Genie In A Bottle," "Beautiful" and her additions to Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger."
Carrie is known, even outside of country, for hits like "Before He Cheats," "Jesus, Take The Wheel," and most recently "Good Girl."
So who's songs are more memorable?
I'll let you guys vote and I'll post the results Thursday just before the 3rd rivals battle, as suggest by a few readers in the previous post!
Voting is over and by just a few votes you guys have chosen Carrie Underwood as your winner!
Sorry X-Tina fans, but you got outvoted on this one!

Even if you take into consideration that the country industry is less effected by piracy than the pop industry, there are still huge country stars that haven't achieved what Carrie Underwood has in half the time. She breaks a record every week. She may not be as huge of a star, but she is well respect because she really understands how to deliver what people want.Coleman Flynn, BMI Nashville.

Easy, Christina has the best hits!!!!
ReplyDeleteMake sure to vote!
Deletei vote for christina but my vote aint getting accepted....
ReplyDeleteFixed.
DeleteMars, Carrie's country princess. the trown belongs to Queen Shania
ReplyDeleteCarrie Underwood is indeed the Country Princess. And with that said, my vote strongly lies with her. I am however very excited about the new Xtina single.
ReplyDeleteMy hate for country is bigger than me hating Cristina because she hates Gaga. But anyway I feel Cristina has the biggest voice in the industry, she looks very Marilyn Monroe era and her songs used to be deep and amazing (before the bionic era).
ReplyDeleteDomenico.
Christina obviously has the bigger hits. Genie in a Bottle, Come on Over, Lady Marmalade, Dirrty, Beautiful, Ain't No Other Man, Hurt... hell, even Not Myself Tonight was a moderate hit.
ReplyDeleteCarrie isn't the most successful to come out of American Idol. Kelly clarkson is.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why they have been put against one another. Too different artists who appeal to different audiences.
Not according to Billboard and when American Idol announced her at her last appearance there.
DeleteFirst: "A rep for having a nasty diva attitude!" - Carrie does NOT have a diva attitude at all... everyone I've read had only the best impressions from her... I myself met her three times and she's always been great and paid attention to her fans with a big smile!! She's shy, which might be misinterpreted, but she's ALWAYS nice...
ReplyDeletenow, I was a fan of Christina's since she came out until the end of the B2B era... now I cannot stand her... she's fake, a bitch, and tries too hard... and when she sings, doesn't matter if she's a great vocalist, she's always all over the place... just because you have a beautiful piano, doesn't mean that if you press all keys at the same time, it'll sound great... and Christina has always been second (or third, fourth, fifth) to every other hot artist, like Britney, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Shakira... Christina was never really the top female artist, always on someone's shadows...
Carrie, on the other hand, is an amazing vocalist... she's a singer, first of all, and will not put on a show that takes away from her vocals... as for her star power, she may not be known worldwide, but in the US, she's a force... handpicked for Michael Jackson's tribute at the Grammys.
Enough said... Carrie is the Queen of Country when I wouldn't even consider Christina a Pop royalty!!
I live in Nashville and work across the street from Sony and my boss does marketing for them on occasion. I've met Carrie plenty of times and when fans aren't all in her face, she's definitely not a nice person. It's well know that she's very business oriented and sometimes bitchy.
DeleteThis is hilarious. Christina's "Christina Aguilera" and "Stripped" eras ALONE knock anything Carrie has done out of the water. Christina is a global figure and goes down as one of the greatest vocalists of all time having been praised by legends. To those denying her success and accomplishments are simply delusional.
ReplyDeleteUnderwood.
ReplyDeletePS: is it so hard to spell check OR copy paste to word? just saying. all of you dont proof read.
Xtina of course.
ReplyDeleteThe level of stardom, that level of a fanbase, it's the kind that cries and buys and makes a person a legend.
People like Carrie, yes. But I think if she releases a bad CD, her fans will abandon her. The country world would laugh at her. With that respect I find Kelly the bigger star because she's a character, not just a country girl eating hay singing good songs.
With Xtina, she can be thin or fat or nice or nasty or release good or bad songs, hell she can even mix up the anthem. But that level of a rabid fanbase exceeds just the songs or the products she sells because the fans love HER first and foremost, then her songs.
you're not giving enough credit to christina in that intro, she's not known for being "one of the best selling females in history", she's known for being one of the best singers in history. i know you're bias against her but at least give her that.
