US Weekly: Britney Spears Getting 'Fired' From X-Factor

Thursday, December 27, 2012

According to US Weekly, X-Factor US judge (and Princess of Pop) Britney Spears will be "fired" from the show sometime in the near future as executives prepare for their make-or-break third season of the show.

I use fired in quotation marks because Britney can't really be fired considering she only signed a one-year contract on the show, get those headlines US Weekly. However, it is a certainty that Britney will not return to the X-Factor and the two parties will cite a "mutual" split.

Below is a quote from the US Weekly article, as well as my thoughts after the jump!
"Britney will get the boot," an insider tells Hot Stuff of the pop star, who joined the show in May, along with fellow newcomer Demi Lovato. "Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn't working."

One reason? Spears' $15 million contract, which sources say the low-energy mentor hasn't earned. "They paid all that for her to say 'amazing' and offer half-claps," a second insider tells Us.

Adds a third source of show co-creator Simon Cowell, who is leading the charge to axe the performer: "He wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney."
X-Factor was extremely boring this season and I'm beyond elated that Britney will NOT be back.

First off, Britney is not a very good judge. It's not because her critiques are vague or repetitive (Lord knows Paula Adbul made a career off that), but because she isn't over dramatic enough on screen. These days, talent shows are all about the judges and the bantering, "kii" moments and punchlines they bring. Britney wasn't bringing the drama, and not only that, but I felt the other judges on the panel felt a little awkward around Britney, they felt a little intimidated to directly attack or criticize her, which created a really dry panel since the banter was primarily between Demi and Simon.

Britney was entirely too professional and too much to the point to make a captivating primetime television fixture. Simon shouldn't have banked on "crazy" Britney to return knowing she was using X-Factor to show she was a sane, adult woman now in the first place! Not to mention, Britney hates making everything about her and is entirely too reserved -- to be a judge, you have to have a big ego and be a bit of a bitch. Britney's only bitchy in private.

Britney isn't entirely at fault though. Simon ignorantly placed all his eggs into one basket hoping that star-power alone would lure viewers. At the end of the day, people don't want to watch star power if the "star" of the show is the driest part of it. People aren't going to watch star power for star power's sake. Obviously I'm a huge Britney fan, but if it was tough for me to sit through an entire episode, how do you think the general public felt?

Reality TV just isn't your thing BGirl, but you rarely disappoint on the music side of things. Let's get this breakup over with so Britney can get back to work on Album 8.

  1. AGREED. I LOVE Britney just like you but I think she was a much better mentor than judge, even I don't want her back next year. I'm excited for her music of course :P Never disappoints in that area.

  3. Despite reports swirling of the pop star's imminent firing from the show, which just completed its second season, an X Factor official tells The Hollywood Reporter that nothing has been decided.

“No one has discussed next year's judging panel yet,” said a spokesperson. “Any reports otherwise are complete speculation."

    1. That just can't be true... The auditions for next season start in March, less than 3 months away! There has to have been discussions about the judges panel so they can be ready for auditions. They need time to hire new judges if they have to.
