Hot 100: A 'Swift' Takeover, Rihanna & Ke$ha Top 5

Thursday, November 1, 2012

The Hot 100 is relatively the same as it has been for the past few weeks aside from tracks from Taylor Swift's million-selling album "Red" snatching six spots on the Hot 100.

Maroon 5 maintains the top spot on the Hot 100 for the sixth week in a row, once again holding off the viral monster "Gangnam Style." Billboard's re-tooled formula, which places greater emphasis on radio spins and streaming rather than digital sales, is one reason why "Gangnam Style" keeps falling short despite charting higher on digital retailers; "One More Night" is massive on radio right now. Still, there's a chance for 'Style' so we'll see in the coming weeks...

In other news, Rihanna's "Diamonds" and Ke$ha's "Die Young" have climbed into the Top 5, respectively. Hot off his "Saturday Night Live" performance, Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven" has charged into the Top 10 and sits at No. 7.

At the risk of getting dragged again, dare I bring this up?...Yes, I dare - ADELE's 007 theme song "Skyfall" slides eight spots from No. 45 to No. 52. Still, I suppose with the movie not even in theaters yet - I'll pass on the "I Told Ya So's" until I'm officially in the clear.

With the release of her new album in under two weeks, Christina Aguilera's un-promoted lead single "Your Body" dropped one spot from No. 59 to No. 60. Still, her American Music Award's performance very well could revive the song - but that performance will come AFTER the album is released.

Nicki Minaj's "Pound the Alarm" continues its decent down into irrelevancy dropping from No. 51 to No. 64 (should have released "Whip It") - the Minaj assisted "Beauty and a Beat" by Justin Bieber rose from No. 71 to No. 70.

  1. I still think Maroon 5 is on payola. The song is not that good to be #1 for that long!

  2. I was surprised the Red tracks didn't chart higher. I think I remember 11 tracks of Speak Now making the Hot 100 on its debut week, and when Fearless was re-released, all 5 new songs made the Top 30 right away. I think it's because of the more emphasis on airplay than digital sales.

  3. I doubt that Psy will get the #1 spot. The song in falling on radios, like theres no tomorrow!

  4. punch! cunts! rihsus! (and to a lesser extent alex clare)

i'm really glad the music buying public has embraced this song; i really wasn't expecting it to be successful because the pop songs i love always end up flopping.
