Hot 100: 'Diamonds' & 'Die Young' Debut Quietly

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

For another week, Maroon 5 and their second single "One More Night" held off Psy's viral hit "Gangnam Style" from the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Now for the tea we all wanted. Ke$ha's lead single "Die Young," from upcoming album "Warrior," debuted at No. 13 on the Hot 100. 'Young' managed to push 188,000 copies within its full charting week.

"Diamonds," the lead single from Rihanna's currently untitled seventh studio album, debuted at No. 16. "Diamonds" managed to sell 133,000 copies, great considering it was released on a Wednesday - losing a day of potential sales. Ironically, global smash "We Found Love" debuted in the same position a year ago.

Taylor Swift's countdown single "Begin Again" blasted up the charts to debut at No. 7. "Begin Again" sold a whopping 299,000 copies and debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Songs Chart.

We'll see how far Christina Aguilera's "Your Body" slid down the charts and if Ciara's "Sorry" managed to debut on the Hot 100 (highly unlikely) when the full ranking is released tomorrow.

The top five songs are exactly the same as last week's Hot 100:

1. 'One More Night' - Maroon 5
2. 'Gangnam Style' - PSY
3. 'Some Nights' - fun.
4. 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' - Taylor Swift
5. 'Blow Me (One Last Kiss)' - P!nk
6. 'As Long As You Love Me' - Justin Bieber (f/ Big Sean)
7. 'Begin Again' - Taylor Swift
8. 'Whistle' - Flo Rida
9. 'Too Close' - Alex Clare
10. 'Good Time' - Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen
...
13. 'Die Young' - Ke$ha
...
16. 'Diamonds' - Rihanna

Notable debuts to watch for next week:
  • "Red" - Taylor Swift
  • "Locked out of Heaven" - Bruno Mars
  • "Skyfall" - ADELE
  • "Live While We're Young" - One Direction
Hot 100 storylines for next week:
  • Will the "Your Body" video give the song a chart boost?
  • Will Psy finally be able to topple Maroon 5?
  • Will Taylor Swift manage to have three songs in the Top 10?

  1. Quietly? Debuting at #13 and #16 is pretty strong... I also read the Billboard article this info came from and they even said "strong debuts".

  3. still surprised that "too close" even broke the charts without any promo outside of an internet explorer commercial.

i looove "diamonds" and my eardrums are so ready for rated r II, which i believe the new album will sound like.
