"Oh, what a wonderful kiki! This kiki is marvelous!"
I never personally agreed with songs like "Born this Way" or "Beautiful" being "gay anthems" just because they took a stand for the misfits. (However, I do understand why some people do relate to the aforementioned songs and respect that, as they are both beautiful songs that appeal to a much wider ranger of people who may have or still do feel insecure about one aspect of themselves before.) Songs like this, or Frank Oceans "Thinkin' About You" or even Madonna's "Vogue" that point out different gay scenes and lifestyles within the culture have always personally stood out as anthems to me. After all, the original "gay anthem" was Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" which wasn't some self-pitying explanation for a being who you want to be.
That said, I've been hearing this song a lot lately, be it in the club or via random talk shows. (Check out their Wendy Williams performance below.) My question is, can this song break through in countries all over becoming a worldwide dance chart smash? It has already topped one dance chart in the US and is being promoted in the UK and in Australia. Will this song pull a Demi Lovato and break into the Hot 100 later down the road... or will this song be forever damned to the dance charts?
