Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Probably my favorite magazine cover by Gaga ever. Love the purple. Love the fro.

  1. Not as good as I expected - too much editing, bears no concept and lacks of oomph. I expected David Lacaphelle-sque shot for Rolling Stone cover mag.

  9. You're right, it's Vogue so it's not gonna be similar fashion to Rolling Stone. My apology. However, I still think that they could do so much better with the cover.

Remember Gaga Vogue cover last year when she worn pink bob 'do? I think it's September issue or something. That's better than this because the cover styling is cohesive from the photo, backdrop to the fonts whereas this is just a horrible mishmash of heavily edited photo, plain backdrop and fonts. The cover seriously looks like an amateur work of a graphic designer.

Another example of great Vogue cover is Rihanna where she flaunts her luscious long wavy red locks by the beach. The color palette is strikingly beautiful especially with her vivid red hair, red dress (if I'm not mistaken) and red lips.

I mean, it's Gaga that we're talking about. She's the biggest superstar on earth, and thus, she deserves to have a rockin' cover. It's fine to use plain backdrop at such but they gotta make sure that the styling is stellar! and the colour palette is eye-catching and iconic for September issue e.g. making it either super colour or drop dead elegant or uber-artistic (black and white). I prefer the backdrop to be a real setting though so that it looks more grand.

I don't know, this cover for me wavers in between elegant and edgy as well as formal. The result is mediocre (not full-fledged).

    1. You're basically expecting her to be "outrageous", and that goes to show how little you know about her. Anybody who think she's outrageous doesn't grasp what part of the universe her brain functions in: where she comes from high heels are slippers. #etcetc

ARTPOP is gonna be all about the music. The promotion however is entirely Pop Art.

  10. she doesnt even look like herself...And reminds me very much Xtina-Fighter where her was almost same...Is she copying Xtina now?

  11. This cover is very mediocre. I expected way more than Gaga and I don't mean outrageous, I mean eye catching! I would walk right by this at a store without a second glance because nothing stands out to me. The Rihanna cover was flawless and even Adele's was superior to this hot mess.

  12. Gaga is no longer a flashy pop star. She's now officially an artist with a dedicated fan base and is hence moving back to the underground. People might just walk by it, but those informed about fashion, music, and high art will recognize it right away.
