Get Into It: The Royalty

Monday, July 2, 2012

Not a lot of rock-ish stuff gets posted on this blog, which I somewhat regret. Here's a great pop-rock band that I had the opportunity of seeing live a few weeks ago and have been bumping on Spotify ever since.

They go by The Royalty. They have a very California garage-band sound, though they hail from El Paso, Texas. The lead singer, Nicole Boudreau, instantly reminded me of Gwen Stefani, except she has a bit of delightful soul a la Duffy or Amy Winehouse.

The lead guitarist, Jesus, is a fucking fireball on stage. (Random, just thought I'd note that.)

You'll completely understand the No Doubt comparisons after listening "I Want You," one of my favorite songs by them.

Their vibe is very summertime and feel good. I'm attracted to them because the classic sound of their music that takes me back to my childhood in the 90s. This is that bopping around your room, jumping on your bed and singing to yourself in the mirror kind of music. It's the kind of music you set to the soundtrack of your summer road trip.

They released an album in early May called Lovers. You can listen to it for free on Spotify or buy it on iTunes and Amazon.

The first single from the album, "Bartender" has a pretty dope video. Love the way Nicole cuntly bounces back and forth in her dress and lets her hair sway! Gorgeous!  Check it below.
