Shel is hard to define. You could call them a group of sisters that sing and play instruments, but that's an ignorant and irrational generalization. They are so much more than that. It's more like a power quartet of femme fatale wunderkind sisters. They don't just sing, they harmonize like the horns and strings in Beethoven's 5th symphony. They don't just play the hell out of their instruments with great passion, they do so flawlessly as if they were born mutated with these instruments attached to their hands. Lyrically they can be likened to Regina Spektor, not the fiercely and purposefully erratic Spektor, but the bright and polished Spektor. All of that and these girls are still as bubbly, adorable and down to Earth as humanly possible. Yes, I think I'm in love with Shel.
Shel, by the way, is an acronym for their names. Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liz (or in the picture about Hannah, Eva, Sarah and Liz), and they are indeed blood sisters, if you couldn't tell by their striking resemblance to each other. That could be why the chemistry is so strong.
"The Battle of Evermore" Live at The Rutledge In Nashville
I had the opportunity to not only watch these amazing chicas perform in Nashville a few days ago, I had an opportunity to meet each of them and hear their album, which comes out in a few months, I believe. I truly hope that I'll have an opportunity to write about these girls again. They are doing amazing things in the music industry right now. You've probably even heard their music in a commercial and not even realized it!
They currently have an EP out titled When The Dragon Came Down. You can buy it on iTunes or Amazon, and of course they can stream it below, which I strongly suggest. Keep an open mind, they are a far cry from the typical Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj sound we normally post, but that's the point of the new "Get Into It" section of the blog. I love introducing you guys to new music and it takes a lot for me to find truly different artists that are worth posting.

this is so fresh and new, I love love it !!
ReplyDeleteInteresting sound. It will probably grow on my every time I listen...
