On Britney & X-Factor

Thursday, March 1, 2012

Surely you've heard the rumors that Britney Spears is being targeted by X-Factor creator Simon Cowell to be a judge on the US version of the hit television show. As of now it's just that, a rumor. No reliable sources from either party has taken the time to respond.

Still, Britney Spears fans are extremely pressed about making this happen. Why? I'm not sure, because I think it's a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea. Britney fans want her to be everywhere at all times. The only way they have been kept content during her breaks past is via leak demos and since the well has pretty much been run dry (aside from a few unreleased songs), they are itching for some new Britney.

As a Britney fan, I would love nothing more than to see Britney being productive during her break from music. Maybe film a television/movie cameo, guest judge on American Idol or the Voice, maybe even get Punk'd by Justin Bieber. But taking a permanent spot on a judging panel doesn't sit right with me for many reasons.

The biggest reason is that I'm absolutely terrified of Cuecardney.

That bitch scares the shit out of me. For 80% of her Femme Fatale tour, she was extremely awkward in interviews, where journalists spoke out about absurd restrictions from management. Her smile was half-heart. Even during fan photos, she looked like there was someone with a gun pointed to her head. Yes, I saw that it became less painful as the tour went on, but I would hate to see Britney lose motivation midway through the season. We don't know the story behind Britney's poorly painted on smile, but I hate seeing her with those glossy sad eyes.

On the flip side, I wouldn't mind Britney stopping in on the show once or twice to be a guest judge, maybe the same way that Rihanna or Beyoncé have in the past.

A lot of artists who take on these judging shows (J.Lo, Christina, Kelly Rowland) use them as a crutch to help them back into the spotlight, something that Britney's never had trouble doing, be it good or bad press. It just seems a little desperate. Don't get me wrong, I love watching Christina be a shady bitch on Voice, but her career also pretty much flat lined during her last musical era and being a judge on America's favorite music talent show was the defibrillator that brought her career back to life. If Christina came out with an album now, she'd had the perfect platform to promote it and she'd already have her name on the lips of all her loyal viewers. Britney doesn't need that. Even at her lowest, the media has always been at her side, launched her right back into the spotlight. Even when her sales were at an all-time low, she embarked on a tour that was well reviewed and sold out in arenas all over the world. You see the difference here?

I just see this being overwhelmingly stressful to hear about in the headlines. I seeing it doing more harm than good. Let Britney take a break. We don't need to have her busy at all times. Clearly she's extremely interested in having a family.

  1. This blog is exaggerating Britney so much!
Anyway she doesn't fit as a judge in x-factor us....

  2. ^bitch above is pressed......no exaggeration at all...it's all true about her...as far as xfactor is concerned i totally agree...she shouldn't be on it all the time....i was thinking....a few episodes of Modern Family.....maybe a segment on ellen :) even if she did a voice for a animated film would be nice. :-) just not too much pressure like full time jading.

  6. It's so weird how such a rumour can make a Britney fan stressed!
I too feel like its not the right decision, those shows are dry and old. You're right in what you say, Britney does things effortlessly and to me, doing this show is effort. Britney doesn't need to stay in the lime light to be relevant, she can take a two year hiatus and come back with a new album and bam there's another number one!
I feel like this show will hurt her reputation slightly. She is an incredibly humble human being while still selling millions of records, to me, judging on this show seems like desperation from her team to say 'Look at me, I still want attention'.

Hopefully if she does it, its only as a guest i.e for the auditions.

  7. Thank you Martian for telling the truth. I am die hard Britney fan, but she acts awkward in front of the camera, and it's hard to watch.

  8. And who wants a judge that every critique is "that was cool, you know?"

  9. LMFAO "I'm just so honored to, you know, see you performing. That was so cool, you know. *eyes scan bottom of the screen*"

  10. Yeah, you're right. I'd like to see her because it would bump her career, but she's just not natural enough -at least in this last era- for something like that. I don't see her as Xtina or J.Lo.. and people would go like "what do you have to do with my bad singing? you use playback" and i'd have to kill them, so i dont wanna do that
