Billboard: Clarkson & Minaj Own Top 10

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

This week for Billboard was quite unpredictable. With Grammy hype finally passing and Whitney Houston's postmortem sales boost winding down, it was difficult to place who would nab the #1 spot on this week's Hot 100...

The honors went to Kelly Clarkson, who's speedily increasing radio impressions gave her just enough boost to give her another week at the top of the charts. Adele's "Set Fire to The Rain" will spend a 4th week in the runner-up spot and "We Are Young" by newcomers fun. w/ Janelle Monae rounds out the top three.

Since airplay for "Part of Me" is still taking off, Katy Perry fell three spots to #4, but will likely bounce back by next week. Katy's wig shopping partner Nicki Minaj has two spots in the top ten; "Turn Me On" jumps back into the top ten this week, landing at #8 due to a recharge in airplay. "Starships" will spend it's second weeks on the charts at #10.

On the album charts... surprise, surprise, Adele is #1 again. Overall, 21 has sold nearly eight million copies in the US. Also in the top ten is her freshman album 19, which tumbles three spots to #7.

Debuting this week is Tyga, who's sold around 61,000 records, gets a nice start at #4. Also, Chiddy Bang makes his Billboard debut at #8 with Breakfast.
