Sometime today, the world will end and we'll all be vaporized back into the dust with which we rose from: "earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust," as they say. So to commemorate the collective death of more than a billion people, what better way to go out than to listen to good, fitting music that reflects today's dire circumstances?
So, yours truly has complied a list of songs with explicit apocalyptic subject matter or end of time/world/life undertones that should be on YOUR playlist's before we all implode into a firefly oblivion.
10. "Spread A Little Love" - Havana Brown
"If we spread a little love, we'll never die." -- Well, someone needs to get over to my house stat and give me a little luvin' so we can live, or so I won't die horny. EITHER WAY.
9. "It's A Wrap" - Mariah Carey
"It's going down like a denominator /.../ That was your last shot, you ain't coming back / It's the Martini I mean it baby / It's wrap!" Welp! You heard Queen MiMi. Start packing your bags.
8. "2012 (It Ain't the End)" - Jay Sean (ft/ Nicki Minaj)
Basic songs like this cause death, and is only on the list because it's one of the most fitting.
7. "End Of Time" - Beyonce
Beyonce will have you bopping and booty shaking into another life with this tune.
6. "Until the End of Time" - Justin Timberlake
Mmm, Mmm, Mmm. Listening to Justin's silky smooth falsetto in one of the greatest songs of our generation is never a wrong way to leave this Earth.
5. "Skyfall" - ADELE
Considering the cinematic drama this real life situation reflects, going out in theatric glory is never a bad thing. Just imagine it, ADELE hits the climax of "Skyfall" -- "let the sky fall-oh-oh! we will stand tall-oh-oh, at skyfall-all-all-all-ALLLL-OHs" spiraling the listener into a dissying tailspin just as world erupts into flames.
4. "All Good Things (Come to an End)" - Nelly Furtado
For all you existentialists that look on the glass-half empty side of things, this is for you. Go ahead and spend your last moments on Earth reflecting on all the times, both good and bad, with a box of Kleenex and this on repeat.
3. "Time For Miracles" - Adam Lambert
Adam Lambert sure can bring a song home! Not only is the track fitting since it's the lead single from 2009 apocalyptic movie "2012", but the 90s-influenced mainstream rock track (which clearly borrows a page from big, theatrical movie soundtracks like Aerosmith's "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing") knocks.
2. "Till the World Ends" - Britney Spears
Obvious appearance on this list is obvious! Fitting, hopeful and shamelessly romanticizes the end of the world with a "bring it on attitude." Who said impending doom had to be a gloomy affair?
1. "Waiting For Tonight" - Jennifer Lopez
Okay, so the song isn't specifically about the end of the world - but the music video which depicts our last apocalyptic situation, Y2K, definitely makes this one of the best end of the world songs ever.
Other songs for your pre-doom playlist pleasure:
"It Ends Tonight" - All American Rejects
"Blow" - Ke$ha
"Meet Me Halfway" - The Black Eyed Peas
"Die Another Day" - Madonna
"Live Like We're Dying" - Kris Allen
TTWE obv should be #1 !
