UPDATE x2 (With working link) - Below is a preview of the track:

We finally have concerete details on Adele's James Bond theme song titled "Skyfall" - for the motion picture of the same name.

The song was composed by Adele and 'Rolling in the Deep' producer Paul Epworth, who also arranged the track with film composer J.A.C. Redford.

The track will premiere, and be released to iTunes, this Friday (or Saturday depending on where you live):

Friday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. PT / Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. ET / Saturday, Oct. 6 at 12 a.m. BST

This means your favs have exactly five days before the sky falls on their careers.

In all seriousness though, I'm not buying the statistical performance hype for this song! Name me the last motion picture track to do significant damage on the Billboard Hot 100. I'm waiting....maybe 1997's "My Heart Will Go On"?

And just because your song will be heard in movie theatres around the world for nearly 24 hours a day means nothing. Just ask Leona Lewis who sang the lead song for "Avatar," the highest grossing movie of all time - that song couldn't chart anywhere (it didn't help that it was trash though). You would think that type of promotion would at least propel SOME single sales.

Adele had a powerhouse year with her album "21," and its subsequent singles in 2011, but all of those singles climbed with the help of radio support and performances. I don't see Adele as the type of artist that can drop something and watch it climb the iTunes charts in thirty minutes (Taylor Swift). Radio isn't going to play "an ominous, dramatic ballad, with lots of gorgeous horn flourishes peeking..." either, so how in the hell will this song kill careers without radio exposure?

Adele understands there is a difference between a radio single and a movie soundtrack. "Skyfall" will clearly fall on the later. Adele is coming for Oscars and Golden Globes with this track. Not radio friendlyness, radio spins, or iTunes sales for that matter.

As usual, who gon' check me boo?
Update: Read me getting checked.

  1. "Name me the last motion picture track to do significant damage on the Billboard Hot 100. I'm waiting" Die Another Day was a huge hit. #8 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 in 5 countries, top 10 in 13+ countries, if that's not a hit then you should not be writting for a music blog

    1. Well then, shut me up!

Although, that was *STILL* 10 years ago. Another one I thought of, "Lady Marmalade" was 11 years ago. Successful movie soundtracks are few and far in-between.

    2. Um, this year's The Hunger Games had 2 US Hot 100 Billboard hits, Safe and Sound (#30) and Eyes Opne (#19), and both charted all over the world as well. Also, 2002's Lose Yourself by Eminem topped a shitload of charts all over the world, including Billboard Hot 100, garnered Eminem 5 Grammy nominations and got him man Oscar.

    3. Welp I'm certainly getting 'checked' right now, but yes, those are good ones too! Although, "Lose Yourself" was -still- 10 years ago. "Safe and Sound" + "Eyes Open" were hits, but not the destructive firebomb people are anticipating with "Skyfall."

Another example given on our Facebook page was Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" - which was a really good example.

    4. This is why this blog is going to shits. Writers like this that don't know their stuff. Kudos to y'all above who proved them wrong. Don't shoot your mouth off about soundtrack songs not doing well if you've never taken an interest in them long enough to delve into the fact that some recent ones have indeed don't considerably well.

    6. It Will Rain was made for the Twilight original soundtrack, btw.

  2. 8 Mile (2002) Eminem "Lose Yourself" 5x platinum, #1 in 19 countries including the US, UK & Australia. I'd say that was a huge hit for a song from a movie soundtrack and it also happened to be after "My Heart Will Go On"...

  4. Yeah I think ur seriously underestimating adeles appeal right now. Coming off the success of 21 she could release "run the world" under her name and have it go number 1

  5. I don't think there has been one MST single that has had a significant impact like My Heart Will Go On. Impact in the digital era is easy to achieve. I hope Skyfall murdaaaz my faves TBH. I'm sick of a this electronic sound and Adele needs to shut them all the fuck up.
