Performance That Rocked Our World

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Earlier I did a post on my favorite vocal performances. Often, those are different from the performances I've found the most entertaining in my lifetime. Welp, instead of boring you to death with words that I just recently looked up in the thesaurus, I'm just going to post them.

Britney Spears - Oops!...I Did It Again (MTV Video Music Awards)

Two things happened when I watched this performance. 1) This was the first time I had ever noticed Britney. I mean, I had seen her videos and heard her songs before, but I could actually see her and understand that this is how every performance should leave me feeling. Exhausted, bewildered, excited and emotional. 2) I realized that I was never going to be with a woman that wasn't Britney Spears. Dated two chicks in high school but I would have rather sat at home practicing the moves from my Greatest Hits: My Prerogative DVD.

Beyoncé - Déjà Vu

Wait, you mean to tell me that people can get on stage, sing their heart out and dance their ass off at the same time? What the hell!? No! My life was a complete lie until I saw this performance. Beyoncé marched down from that ladder, swung her ridiculously poofy wonder-weave, flexed her six pack and gave one of the most energetic performances I'd ever seen. Kelly Rowland was clapping, but she had to have known at that point that there was no way she'd ever make it as big. When she got down on the floor and threw a tantrum, then dragged her own body across the floor, I nearly had an aneurysm and a heart murmur. It wasn't over the top. It was all about the effects. It was just perfect.

P!nk, Mya, Usher - (Janet Jackson, Icon)

First of all, when the hell did P!nk learn to dance? More importantly, why doesn't she move like this anymore. I mean, she looked amazing up there on stage. Of course, Usher & Mya are known for dancing, so it was a given that they would eat this. *sigh* We need more tributes like these!

Christina Aguilera, Madonna & Britney Spears - Like A Virgin/Hollywood (MTV Video Music Awards)

Still not quite sure if the world was ready for this when it happened. Realistically, the performance itself was just so-so. It was the undeniable star power and the heart-stopping controversy that made this performance great. Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera were pop music at the time. There were no names nearly as big. Then Madonna, an icon of the same right, joins them on stage and... what the fucking shit hell? Did they just kiss?

Yeah, I know. Typical choices coming from me, but can you deny the power these performances had?

What are some of your favorite, non-vocal performances? Performance when they just got up their and shook their ass as hard as they could!

  3. I know it wasn't a televised event, but Britney Spears Onyx Hotel Tour preformence of "Breathe On Me" changed my life. I was lucky enough to be in second row at that show. It was so overwhelming I blacked out.
